Expedition Into Darkness Goblins

Cowardly alone, murderous in packs — and the Ogre Grab can end the run.

Goblins Enemy Guide

Goblins are the pack-hunting scavengers of Expedition Into Darkness. Antediluvian Interactive’s medieval third-person co-op dungeon crawler and extraction looter (Steam app 3126410, planned Q4 2026) seeds ruins with Blackblood clan threats that feel soft in ones and twos — then murderous when archers, grenadiers, and elites stack. Party size is 1–5. Permadeath deletes the character and everything carried; only the camp stash survives. This page breaks down the roles, the Ogre Grab rule, reagent drops, and how to leave with fingers and ears still in your bag.

Watch the Goblin expedition gameplay embed mid-article, then drill the same habits with combat and controls, how to extract, the map hub, and beginner builds. Siblings: Fleshkin, Bonekin, Bosses, enemies hub.

What Goblins feel like

Community and official flavor agree: knife-happy scavengers — cowardly alone, murderous in packs. Where Fleshkin sell a screaming sprint, Goblins sell angles. An Archer pins you while a Spearman closes. A Grenadier denies the doorway you wanted for extract. A Shaman or Sergeant/Captain turns a messy pack into a wipe if nobody calls focus.

Survive by refusing the swarm’s terms:

  1. Kill or suppress ranged first when you can do it without eating three melee swings.
  2. Peek; do not stand in the middle of the clan.
  3. Keep a lane open toward a named exit on the map.
  4. Treat the Ogre as a separate decision — not “one more Goblin.”

Sergeants and Captains can look similar in playtests (including randomized flags). Expect Captains to gain more distinct abilities over time — treat both as “pack elites,” not trash.

Drops: Goblin Finger and Ogre Ear

  • Goblin Finger — common reagent talk from Goblin kills. Easy to over-farm. Fingers do not help if you die at the door.
  • Ogre Ear — associated with Ogres. High value, high risk. An Ear in inventory raises the cost of every optional fight afterward.

Bank reagents in the camp stash after a successful leave. Spend them through camp crafting paths linked from beginner builds and the wider builds section. Carried loot is never “almost safe.”

How to beat Goblin packs

Priority and peeks

Goblin wipes usually start with tunnel vision on the nearest knife while an Archer freefires. Establish a priority order before the engage: ranged → elite → melee trash, adjusted for whoever is about to hit you right now. Polearms and spears shine for lane control; a bow or crossbow deletes Archers if ammo is ready before the pack closes. Control fundamentals live in combat and controls.

Grenadiers and door fights

Grenadiers punish players who treat extraction doors as arena floors. If a blast denies your leave path, rotate to a backup exit instead of tanking chaos on the threshold. That habit is half combat and half how to extract.

Shamans and Sergeants / Captains

Support and leadership enemies turn “almost dead packs” into second winds. In co-op, the Caller should name the elite. Solo, delete the amplifier when you have a clean window — then immediately reassess the leave trigger.

The Ogre Grab rule

The Ogre is enormous, club-heavy, and explicit in community notes: beware of the Grab — it will kill you. Do not learn Grab range with a full bag of Building Supplies and Ogre Ears. Soften from distance, keep stamina for escape tools, and refuse the engage if your pre-set leave trigger already fired. Heroic Ogre kills that end in a wipe are still losses.

Loadouts that help

From beginner builds and component crafting:

  • Reach primary for Spearmen and pack edges.
  • Ranged secondary for Archers and Ogre soften.
  • Simple backup melee for when the swarm hugs you anyway.
  • Inventory discipline — mid-fight Tetris is how Goblins win.

Fleshkin teach stamina. Goblins teach focus fire and exit geometry. Both skills are mandatory before boss skull hunts on the bosses page.

Where Goblins show up

Expect Blackblood pressure in ruined approaches, chokepoints, and mixed sites across the map hub. Open ground lets Archers shine; tunnels let Spearmen and Grenadiers deny lanes. If a boss skull sits behind a Goblin gauntlet, decide the skull before the first finger drops into your bag.

Compare pack tempo with Fleshkin rushes and Bonekin marches so you do not bring a Fleshkin kit into a Grenadier doorway problem.

Co-op calls

With up to five players:

  • Ranged owns Archers and softens Ogres.
  • Reach holds Spearmen and doorway lanes.
  • Anchor absorbs knives when the peek fails.
  • Caller names Captain/Shaman/Ogre focus and extract timing.

Revive heroics inside a Grenadier blast lane are how full parties wipe together. Leave with four living couriers and fewer Ears if that is what the trigger demands.

Common wipe patterns

  1. Ignoring Archers to chase a single Goblin into a side room.
  2. Standing in Grenadier denial at the extract door.
  3. Opening inventory mid-pack.
  4. Treating the Ogre like trash melee and learning Grab the hard way.
  5. Farming Fingers past the leave trigger “because the pack is almost dead.”

Practice plan

  1. Watch the Goblin expedition footage on this page once for pack audio and spacing.
  2. Clear one Archer-heavy pack using peeks only.
  3. Clear one mixed pack with a Sergeant/Captain focus call.
  4. Soften or skip one Ogre based on bag weight — then extract on purpose.

Goblins reward discipline more than bravery. Delete the angles, respect the Grab, bank Fingers and Ears in camp, and let the clan keep whatever you cannot carry home alive.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are Goblins dangerous alone?

A single Goblin often feels manageable. The danger is pack composition — Archers, Grenadiers, elites, and Ogres stacked together. Fight the angles, not just the nearest knife.

What does the Ogre Grab do?

Community notes are blunt: the Ogre Grab can kill you. Respect Grab range, soften from distance, and skip the fight if your extract trigger already fired.

What do Goblins drop?

Goblin Finger is the common reagent associated with Goblin kills. Ogre Ear comes from Ogres. Both are lost on permadeath until deposited in the camp stash.

Who should I kill first in a Goblin pack?

Prioritize Archers and other ranged pressure when safe, then elites like Shamans or Sergeant/Captain, then remaining melee — adjusted for whoever is about to hit you immediately.

Which beginner kit helps vs Goblins?

A reach weapon plus a ranged secondary covers Spearmen and Archers well. Check Beginner Builds and Combat and Controls for stamina and ammo habits.

Should I fight Goblins at the extraction point?

Only if they block the leave. Optional door fights — especially with Grenadiers — are a classic wipe. Rotate or extract using How to Extract discipline.
