Builds Hub

Welcome to the Builds Hub for Expedition Into Darkness, the medieval third-person co-op dungeon crawler and extraction looter from Antediluvian Interactive (Steam app 3126410, planned Q4 2026). Here you plan what you carry into the ruins: modular weapons, starter loadouts, role-based weapon rankings, and armor plus bag setups that survive long enough to reach an exit.

Builds in this game are temporary expressions of a permanent camp. Permadeath deletes the character and everything on their body. The stash and camp facilities stay. Every recommendation on these pages assumes that truth — craft at camp, risk only what you can afford to lose, and extract before greed rewrites your inventory.

PageUse it when
Weapon CraftingYou need to understand pommels, crossguards, blades, grips, shafts, materials, durability falloff, and Workbench assembly.
Beginner BuildsYou want safe Moor kits: sword and shield, spear reach, or bow support.
Weapon Tier ListYou want role-ranked weapon families for extract risk, not vanity DPS charts.
Armor LoadoutsYou are choosing layered clothing, knapsacks versus larger backpacks, helmet parts, and stash-versus-carry rules.

How builds work in an extraction looter

You do not buy finished legendaries from a shop and forget about them. Weapons are assembled from components — swords, maces, axes, polearms, spears, bows, and crossbows all grow from parts and materials. Armor is layered clothing and headwear with optional helmet pieces such as visors and napes. Bags decide how much loot you can haul and how hard you are punished when you fail to leave.

A good build answers four questions before you drop:

  1. What job am I doing? Scout, melee anchor, reach control, or ranged overwatch.
  2. What am I willing to lose? Anything on the body can vanish with the character.
  3. What stays in stash? Backup weapons, upgrade materials, and spare components.
  4. When do we extract? Bag weight and fight quality decide the leave call — not “one more room.”

If those answers are fuzzy, open the loadout planner and the extraction checklist before you craft anything fancy.

Suggested reading order

New players should follow this path:

  1. Weapon Crafting — learn how parts combine and why durability matters mid-run.
  2. Beginner Builds — pick one forgiving kit for The Moor.
  3. Armor Loadouts — size the bag to the run goal; leave surplus at camp.
  4. Weapon Tier List — refine roles once you understand combat spacing in combat and controls.

After a few successful extracts, invest materials through camp progression and camp upgrades. The facility spine runs Workbench → Workshop or Ironworks → Forge → Blacksmith → Armoursmith. Better facilities unlock better recipes; they do not make greed safe.

Builds only matter if they support the extract loop:

Party size is solo or up to four allies (1–5 total). Coordinate roles in voice before you argue about which axe head looks cooler.

Build philosophy for this wiki

We rank and recommend for extract success, not highlight-reel kills. A spear that keeps Fleshkin off your bag is better than a heavy cleaver that empties your stamina in a Goblin swarm. A knapsack that lets you leave on time beats a tall backpack that turns every hallway into a slow funeral march. A helmet with a sensible nape and visor setup beats fashion plating you cannot afford to lose on a scouting run.

Playtest numbers will shift on the road to the planned Q4 2026 release. Treat component names, bag capacities, and material grades as design truths with mutable values. When a patch changes a recipe, re-check crafting pages and rebuild from stash — never from a corpse plan.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What belongs under the Builds Hub?

Weapon crafting, beginner kits, the weapon tier list, and armor loadouts. Use Guides for extraction and combat fundamentals, and Tools for planners and checklists.

Do builds survive character death?

No. The character and carried gear are lost on permadeath. Components and finished weapons left in the camp stash remain safe between runs.

Should beginners start with the tier list?

No. Learn weapon crafting and pick a beginner build first. Use the tier list after you understand stamina, reach, and extract timing.

How do camp upgrades affect builds?

Workbench and later facilities (Workshop, Ironworks, Forge, Blacksmith, Armoursmith) unlock recipes and metal tiers that make better components available. Camp progression is the real long-term power curve.

Can I play these kits solo or in co-op?

Both. Expedition Into Darkness supports solo play and parties of up to five. Solo kits should be more defensive; co-op kits can specialize by role.

Where should I go after picking a build?

Open How to Extract and the Extraction Checklist, then run a focused Moor session. Deposit loot immediately and spend toward the next camp unlock you actually need.
