Expedition Into Darkness Items Hub

Craft at camp, stash what persists, and leave junk in the ruins.

Items Hub

The Items Hub for Expedition Into Darkness covers everything you pick up, assemble, or spend between runs. Antediluvian Interactive’s medieval third-person co-op dungeon crawler is also an extraction looter: loot only becomes progress when it reaches the camp stash. Characters die permanently; carried gear dies with them. Stashed materials, unlocked facilities, and finished recipes are the long-term economy.

Use this hub to decide what to carry, what to craft, and what to invest before you queue another expedition into The Moor, Catacomb Ruins, or Chapel Ruins.

How item progression works

A healthy loop looks like this:

  1. Enter with a finished kit from builds or weapon crafting.
  2. Farm loot and resources with a leave trigger already set.
  3. Extract before greed empties your character.
  4. Deposit Building Supplies, ingots, and monster parts into stash.
  5. Spend on camp upgrades and crafting recipes.
  6. Rebuild loadouts and return.

If you skip deposit, the next death taxes your entire haul. If you skip facilities, recipes stay locked and every new character starts weaker than they should.

Crafting recipes

The crafting recipes page explains Workbench toolcraft, weaponsmithing components, and how Ironworks, Forge, Blacksmith, and Armoursmith gate higher tiers. Craft at camp — the ruins are for acquisition, not assembly.

Loot and resources

Loot and resources covers Building Supplies, metal ingots, and monster drops such as Corpse Tongue and Goblin Finger. It also answers the practical question every heavy bag raises: stash, sell, or drop before the exit fight.

Camp upgrades

Camp upgrades maps the facility chain — Workbench, Workshop, Ironworks, Forge, Blacksmith, Armoursmith — and when to unlock each step. Pair it with the decision-focused camp progression guide so Building Supplies are not wasted on vanity.

World modifiers

World modifiers catalogs portents such as Blood Moon, Still Flesh, Shattered Graves, Silent Ossuaries, Black Tide, Black Drought, Waxing/Waning Moon, Vacant Chambers, Crawling Plenty, and Gold Rush — and how they should change leave triggers before you drop.

What matters most early

Playtest-facing priorities stay consistent on the road to the planned Q4 2026 release (Steam app 3126410):

  • Building Supplies fund facilities. Treat them as campaign currency, not vendor trash.
  • Component quality beats carrying three unfinished weapons. Assemble one kit you trust.
  • Monster parts often feed recipes or trades; learn which drops your next unlock needs.
  • Stash space starts limited (roughly a 10×25 grid in early playtest notes) and fills fast — organize before it becomes a crisis.

New players should also read getting started and run a light route with the extraction checklist until depositing after every successful leave is automatic.

Tie items to maps and combat

Item goals should match the region:

  • The Moor — safer Building Supplies farming and exit practice.
  • Catacomb Ruins — tighter tunnels, Bonekin pressure, higher risk for denser finds.
  • Locations and extraction points — plan chests, levers, and white-flag exits before you fill every slot.

Combat readiness scales with camp metalwork. Do not expect Blacksmith comfort while swinging Workbench scraps into Fleshkin and Goblin packs. Use combat and controls for fight fundamentals while your economy climbs.

Co-op economy notes

Parties of up to five should agree on a shared facility roadmap. One player can operate benches, but materials belong to the plan. Pocketing the only hammer needed for Blacksmith progress is how friendships and runs both die. Role and loot rules belong in co-op tips and the party planner.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Where should I start in the Items section?

Read Crafting Recipes for the Workbench loop, Loot and Resources for what to keep, and Camp Upgrades for the facility chain. New players should pair those with Getting Started and How to Extract.

Do items survive character death?

Only items in the camp stash survive. Anything carried on a dead character is lost. Extraction is how loot becomes permanent.

What should I prioritize extracting early?

Building Supplies for facilities, crafting components you can use soon, and tools required for Ironworks, Forge, Blacksmith, or Armoursmith. Novelty junk is droppable.

Should I craft in the ruins?

No. Assemble weapons and tools at camp using unlocked facilities. Field time is for scavenging and extracting, not workshop experiments.

How does this hub relate to Builds?

Items and camp unlocks feed recipe tiers; Builds covers finished loadouts and weapon assembly goals. Use both so your stash spending matches the kit you actually run.

Where do Blood Moon and Gold Rush notes live?

See World Modifiers for enemy and loot portents, then adjust your Map Hub route and Extraction Checklist leave triggers before you queue.
